Efficacy of Bovilis® Neoguard

Vaccination with Bovilis Neoguard reduces the abortion rate due to N. caninum infection.

Field Trial

The effects of vaccination under field conditions were evaluated in cows from farms previously diagnosed with abortions caused by N. caninum.

Half of the group was vaccinated twice in the first trimester of pregnancy with Bovilis Neoguard as recommended, the other half received a placebo saline solution. The animals in the study were followed to the end of their gestation. The abortion rate in both groups was compared to asses the efficacy of the vaccine.

Abortion can be caused by a variety of factors. In the vaccinated and control animals, factors (infectious and non-infectious) other than Neospora infection may have caused abortions in some of the animals.

Conclusion

On farms where Neospora caninum is the major cause of abortion, the expected reduction in overall abortion rate is about 50%.
